WHAT IT'S ABOUT
HOGAST ist one of the biggest hotel and gastronomy companies in Austria. With its own job portal HOGASTJOB, it offers around 6,000 members a platform for employee-search – even beyond the austrian borders.
Beginning with a usability-check on the old platform we faced the tasks to design the career portal more user-centered, create new functionalities and optimize the data matching. Hence, we were able to simplify the recruiting-process for both sides and to guide the users more.

We developed HOGASTJOB into an innovative, future-proof and reliable platform on which the job-/ employee search becomes a modern matching-process. The platform now supports the whole user and candidate journey - from the actual job search and the job application over direct communication possibilities with the help of an internal chat-function to the confirmation or rejection of the applicant. Furthermore, we successfully managed to merge the two separate platforms for companies and job seekers into a holistic, future-proof system.
THE INTERFACE DESIGN
A strongly applied user-centered design approach guided the whole design-process. Diverse user groups even within the job seekers group required a detailed user guidance throughout the vast functionalities of the platform.
Visually, a balanced blue colour palette transports serenity, harmony and empathy and stands in contrast to the red call-to-actions. To reach the target groups visually and to transport the diversity of jobs in the industry, we mixed flat-style illustrations with real images from the hotel and gastronomy field in a collage. Additionally, minor animations liven up the collages.
IT'S A MATCH!
HOGASTJOB is the place where job seekers and employers come together. A matching experience as main function synchronises a wide range of data to be able to generate suiting matches for each target audience. With the help of candidate-profiles and job-advertisements companies and job seekers are being matched by the system, and therefore are able to search efficiently for employees/ jobs on their own. Users with little time can find suiting jobs with a QuickApplication-feature where no candidate-profile is needed.
THE UNDERLYING TECHNOLOGY
The use of the PHP CMS “Neos” enables the client to manage their content via Frontend Editing themselves and simultaneously, creates a solid and contemporary framework-base for the many individually developed modules. The numerous interfaces to third party systems and a high complexity of the business logic made the project technically challenging. Search and filters were solved with the integration of elastic search performantly. The transfer of existing data in the structural new developed system was one of the biggest challenges of the project. The large data amount and the inconsistency of the original data set high demands on the specifically for this purpose developed migration routes.
